By registering your trip intentions, you ensure that somebody will check up if you do not return. DOC visitor centres no longer offer intentions services, but the following options are available. All the following services are designed to be used in the New Zealand outdoors environment.

AdventureSmart

This service from New Zealand Mountain Safety Council provides forms you can fill out and leave with a trusted contact (within or outside New Zealand)

 Adventure Buddy

This service is run by two experienced trampers in Nelson and serves all of New Zealand. It is approved by New Zealand Search and Rescue. This service is useful where you do not have a trusted contact.

RoughPlan

RoughPlan is an extensive set of tools for planning outdoor adventures, including intentions monitoring. It has many features not offered by the other tools, but it is also more complex to use. RoughPlan is approved by New Zealand Search and Rescue.
