From SH 2; Waioeka Gorge Rd: Start Opp. side of river from Maunganuku Campground. 2 -3 hours walk up on a benched track, then up the Maunganuku Stream to Maunganuku Hut. 5-6 hour walk up Maunganuku Stream, over a saddle following a marked track, then down the Wahaatua Stream to Wahaatua Hut. Another route is up Wahaatu Stream from Te Waiti Hut. Te Waiiti Hut is accessed from the Otara Rd, East of Opotiki & cars can be left at Bush Haven.This stream route has a few deep pools. |
