Old Manson Hut (historic)
Kaweka Forest Park
A slab-built 1940s hut int he Kaweka Forest park. The historic Manson Hut has been restored to original condition, and is worth a visit. It feaures 4 sacking bunks, and open fire. Walls and framing are of locally sourced timber, and the roof is iron. There are no windows. Water is from a nearby stream.
The hut lies in the basin to the east of the new Manson Hut, and about 100m below it. From Manson Hut, head 20m east through the band of beech, and pick up a rough track that sidles north beside the beech then drops steeply to the basin below. It takes about 5 minutes to drop to the historic hut, and a good bit longer to climb back up again.
