Ancient Tramper There is a certain Middle Eastern flavour to the area.
Gizeh Col could be Giza misspelled, and the Sphinx Saddle - both Cairo landmarks.
From memory, the river Jordan flows into the sea of Galilee.
NZ soldiers served in this area in WW1, so possibly a veteran named these places in the 1920s?

Longtack Great report sis. I was up the Jordan a few weeks ago and kept to the true left most of the way avoiding soggy bits, steeper snow-grass and tussock. Sardines for lunch ;-D

Ancient Tramper Well done, excellent detail Honora.
Somewhere I read that the Jordan Stream was named by early CMC members.
On their way back from Carrington to the Bealey pub, there was 'one more river, and that's the river of Jordan...one more river, one more river to cross...'
A good story, anyway...;)
