Here is a gpx file. It shows the new huts location & the routes to the hut from the Geologists Creek & Styx car parks plus the road walk between the carparks. The site of the former Mt Brown hut is also shown.

I recommend the loop trip. Also a sidetrip up to the summit of Mt Brown from the hut is well worth doing on a clear day.

I find the route up to the hut from the Geologists Creek carpark is usually about 15 minutes quicker than going up to the hut from the Styx carpark. If you drive the 4x4 track beyond the Styx carpark walking times up to the hut are much the same for either route. It takes roughly 30 minutes to walk along Dorothy Falls Road (the Lake Kaniere -Kokatahi Road) between the two carparks. The road walk is a mix of native bush & farmland with views of Lake Kaniere some of the way.
