lewshaw Another informative read.When Maggie & I climbed Mt Ida,there was remnant snow on the summit.Being hot,we had our lunch there.Maggie complained about being bitten & it was ladybirds,hundreds of them.She had a skimpy top on & maybe they were after the salt on her skin.We sometimes have Xmas nearby at the Eweburn Dam.

Honora Cheers, yes, it certainly makes for resourcefulness. The best example I read of this was when a Tongan Captain used planking from a shipwreck to build a catamaran. The only tools he had were a knife and a 6 inch nail (Minerva Reef). They used fire to shape the planks and 3 of them sailed to the nearest populated islands to arrange for the rest of them to be rescued. It took them about 4 months to do this but one of the crew died from beriberi.

Longtack I enjoyed that very full account Honora. Those challenges of making-do with limited tools at huts are often satisfying.
