Paparoa Range tops above Moonlight Creek July 2011

Paparoa Range tops above Moonlight Creek July 2011

This pic was taken off point 1104m on the crest of the Paparoa Range and looks ENE. The foreground ridge running up to the crest of the range from the right is the one that the Moonlight track/route comes up. To the right of the viewer is Moonlight Creek which drains to the Grey River. The glimpse to the left is of the headwaters of the Punakaiki River which drains out to the West Coast. In the opposite direction to this view is the Croesus track.

On a good day there are fantastic views from this section of tops; East to the main divide, West to the Tasman Sea & North & South along the Paparoas. The visibility this trip wasn't great but we did get to see the the sea & coastline at the mouth of Canoe Creek which is just north of Barrytown and down into the Grey valley. It started snowing soon after we got into the bush on our return trip.
