Carkeek Hut
Tararua Forest Park
Carkeek is located in the middle of the Tararua Forest Park. There are no currently maintained tracks leading immediately to the hut, although several routes are commonly used. Unmaintained tracks can still be followed ie Park Forks up Carkeek ridge, Park Forks up to Nichols, Park Forks up to Dorset Ridge hut. An (unmarked) route exists from Tarn ridge hut, by descending to the upper Waiohine past point 1313 and climbing up spur between points 1285 and 1315 onto Carkeek ridge. Care is needed in following these routes.
