Carkeek Hut
Tararua Forest Park
Carkeek is located in the middle of the Tararua Forest Park. There are no maintained tracks leading to this hut. Several old NZFS tracks can still be followed, with care. This hut is managed by the exNZFS volunteer group.

From McGregor bivy, descending to Waiohine river then up Carkeek ridge approx. 4-5 hours. From Arete Hut, along Tarn Ridge then Carkeek ridge. Approx 3-4 hours. From Nichols hut, descending to Park Forks via old track and then up Carkeek ridge. Approx 4-5 hours. From Dorset Ridge to Park Forks to Carkeek. Approx 4-5hours Tops travel from Arete hut takes about 4 hours |
