Rocks Ahead Hut. A standard 4-bunk forestry hut on the Ngaruroro river. Steep tracks climb 600-700m onto 3 surrounding ranges to reach Back Ridge Biv, Venison Tops (Tira) Lodge, and onto the Manson tops for Manson / Otutu Huts. The latter is reached by a cableway / basket which is hard work, but entertaining.
A 2-bunk dog-box biv lies in a clearing on the opposite bank. This is marked 'for removal' but has had recent work done on the biv and clearing, so maybe not ...
