Oronui Hut. A standard 6-bunk hut in the eastern Raukumara Forest Park. 6 bunks, woodburner, tank water.

The hut is up on a terrace some 30m above the river, opposite the confluence. The start of the track was marked with small triangles.

The hut is used mainly by hunters, but occasional trampers pass through, generally ont he Raukumara east-west crossing. Note that the only huts remaining ont his crossing are Oronui and Mangakirikiri. Mangatutara and Te Kahika are no longer present and their former sites now lie in the midst of gravel river channels.

The east-west crossing is tough: scrubby, unmaintained tracks over the saddles, with little/no recent markings. River travel forms the majority of the route, with the Oronio gorge at the eats end, and Motu river at the west requiring multiple deep crossings.
