Cameron Hut (Kaweka)
Kaweka Forest Park
Typical orange hut found in the Kaweka Ranges. 6 bunks with a fireplace and water from the river. Lots of room for camping. Could possibly float back down to Cameron Carpark in innertubes with the exception of a couple of rapids. If walking in overland, the descent from the Smith-Russell track is very steep and makes for a punishing four hour climb out the following morning (800 metre elevation gain). DOC has recently upgraded track markers but you'll still need to pay attention, especially as you cross the various clay pans. This route is quite exposed in places - erosion has resulted in steep drop offs right next to the track.
