Waiaua Gorge hut on the western side of Mount Taranaki/Egmont. This hut is one of the main stop off's on the Round The Mountain circuit. The closest access point is from Ihaia Road, Opunake, and it is approx 2 hours walk from the end of the road. 16 Bunks, and an awesome metro fire that burns all night without needing to stoke it up in the small hours! In front of the hut (from where the photo is taken from, if you turn around) is a large bluff that drops down into the Waiaua gorge awesome views of the western side of Taranaki and Fanthoms Peak, access to the gorge is via a fairly large ladder and a bit of rock scrambling down a small stream to the main river.
