Healey Creek hut

A tidy four bunker toward the head of Healey Creek a Mikonui River tributary. The hut is on a tussock bench on the TL well above the creek about half way up to the skyline ridge known as Healey Spur. (this hut is aka Healey Spur hut)

This is a top spot! The hut is well cared for and a great base for some interesting tops trips over the warmer months. The hut is lined but has no stove! Volunteers have kept the track open from the Mikonui valley floor. It was completely re cut from an overgrown state by the Davidson boys of Hokitika in 2004/2005. Now in 2014 it is ready for a full recut only having had minor work done on it in recent times!

Getting there
Getting there
From the TL of the Mikonui valley. The climb up thru the bush starts about 20 minutes up & around the bush edge from Mikonui Flat hut or 45 minutes from the road end if you go directly to the track start missing MF hut. Tape on the bush edge & a small orange plastic triangle just past a small blown out side creek marks where to leave the flats. It takes 2.5hrs from here to the hut if you know the way. (likely longer if not)
