Tunnel Creek hut

This hut is on the TL of the Paringa River in South Westland. The hut is close (4-5km) to the head of the valley but there is no climbing of note involved in reaching it from down river as the travel is all either grass or beech forest flats and terraces beside the river.

Getting there
Getting there
Up river flats from the TL of the main highway bridge across the Paringa River. (You can also go up flats on the other side then ford to the TL bank if the river is not up) It is easy going on country which cattle graze as far as the Otoko River Confluence. From Condon's (now Ben Monk') private hut near this confluence and Stew Creek a track starts that goes all the way to Tunnel Creek hut. It takes about half a day to get from the roadend to the hut. (There can be deep fords on this trip!)
