Newton Range biv

Information may be incorrect: you are not viewing the latest version of this page. This version ID 8605 created 16 September 201016 September 2010 by glennjglennj.

This biv is perched near the crest of the Newton Range. This range seperates the Arahura River to the north from the Styx River to the south. The biv is sheltered from the west by a bump but commands great views to the east along the Newton Range. Short walks north or south from the biv to the edges of the ridge crest give great views of the Arahura and Styx catchments.

Getting there
Getting there
Commonest access is from the Styx River via a side creek that joins the Styx at NZTM2000 E1458963, N5249853. Initially it's creek bed travel, then up a revegitating slip, next the scrub section to the tussock is on a cut track. Once in the tussock sparse snow poling guides you north & eastward toward the biv. The biv can also be accessed from either end of the Newton Range. More detailed information is available at the Permolat site.
