Head of Lake Christabel August 2010

Lake Christabel is a large boomerang shaped lake approx 3km long. The lake was caused centuries ago by a slip blocking the Blue Grey River. The outlet is an underground one. Lake Christabel is reputed to be NZ's largest lake without introduced fish species. It does have Koaro & Long Finned Eel. There are unconfirmed reports that Rainbow Trout have illegally been introduced.
