A new hut on a terrace above lake McKerrow on the Hollyford Track.

Hokuri marks the coastward end of the infamous Demon Trail: such named as the track leaves the valley floor between Demon Trail Hut and here and sidles climbing/falling along the valleyside. For experienced walkers this section will present no probelms: it's tame compared to most NZ tramps, and the track is still of benched standard. However, Hollyford Track company jetboats give the option of bypassing this section and travelling on the lake.

From here on the track drops to the valley floor and follows first the lakeshore then river flats to the coast.

Note that the new hut is a km or so south of the location of the original hut shown on older maps.
