The Hump Track which leads to Lake Hauroko begins nearby. There is no road access to the far end of the track. Trampers may prefer to walk only as far as Wairaurahiri Hut and return for a comfortable 4 day walk.

Summary

Beach and coastal walking leads to Port Craig, the site of the largest and most modern sawmilling operation in 1920s New Zealand. The school house, wharf piles and mill foundations remain. But the most stunning artifacts are the series of wooden viaducts to the west. Crossing these, Wairaurahiri River is reached. Beyond here the track enters mature forest and follows the old Puyseger Point telephone line as far as Big River.
