This cave was used by Maori and by European explorers travelling the coast. The cave has three entrances and is carved out of Hawk's Crag breccia rather than the ubiquitous limestone of the area.

To find the cave, walk around the side barrier at the very end of the bridge and cross the grass to a pathway. You will walk past a row of baches on your left -- these are usually occupied but the inhabitants don't seem to mind. The cave entrance becomes obvious on the right.
