From the head of Lake Rotoiti (Lake Head Hut)signposts direct you across Travers river and through a grassy flat to the walking track on the true left(west) side of the river.(scenic route)The alternative is to follow the true right for 5km, to a foot bridge across the Travers,past the Cascade Track turn-off. Continue over the Travers footbridge until you arrive at a 2nd footbridge over Hopeless Creek, on the other side is a signpost indicating the track to Hopeless Hut.
