Located southwest of Lake Wakatipu and southeast of the Mavora Lakes, the Eyre Mountains include the highest Southland peaks outside of Fiordland.

The park is relatively undeveloped, with a few older tracks and huts inland from Five Rivers. Climbs of Jane (2022m) and Eyre Peaks (1969m) are also possible.
