Ngongotaha Scenic Reserve
A scenic reserve on the outskirts of Rotorua
The Ngongotaha Scenic Reserve actually consists of two reserves on the slopes of My Ngongotata on the outskirts of Rotorua. The Eastern Reserve broadly covers the face of the mountain that you see from Rotorua. The western reserve is on the back of the mountain and suffers from a lack of public access points.
In recent years the reserves are being developed by the Mt Ngongotaha Bush Restoration Trust in cooperation with the Department of Conservation.
A network of tracks is being planned as well as extensive pest control to make the reserve a better place to visit.
