Temple Shelter
Temple Shelter is a three-and-a-half walled shelter at the DOC campground at the Temple Stream roadend. The shelter has a fireplace, but no sleeping platform or bunks - so it's kipping on the concrete floor if you end up staying here. In reality the shelter is emergency accommodation only, and more commonly used as a cooking / social area for the campground - a purpose it serves well, warmed as it is by its open fire.
The valley track up to South Temple Hut is maintained to almost greak-walk standard: this is a very easy, well maintained valley walk suitable for all abilities.
Many alpine routes exist in this areas making it excellent for off-the-beaten-track round trips.
