The Red Hills Hut sits on the saddle between the Motueka (right branch) and the Wairau, and at the base of the Red Hills Ridge. Sadly the hut has been badly treated (grafiti abounds) and allowed to fall into a rough state. The fireplace has been removed, and the beds / matresses are so decrepid / bowed that sleeping on the floor presented a much more comfortable option. However, the hut is weather-tight, and provides a convenient and useful stopping place, which would be sorely missed were it to fall further into disrepair.

The hut makes a good base for exploring the spectacular Red Hills to the north-east, and a convenient stop on the track down the Motueka Valley.
