Irthing Hut (Irthing Biv)
Eyre Mountains/Taka Rā Haka Conservation Park
Another typical Eyre Mountain 2-bunk forestry hut (sleeps 2-3, fireplace, stream water, firewood available). Painted bright orange, and located where the bush gives out to tussock and low scrub at the head of the Irthing Stream. Beautiful views across the flats at the head of the valley to the Helen Peaks, especially when there's snow around.
An easy route behind the hut leads to Shepherd Saddle and the Eyre River beyond. From Shepherd Saddle, the ridge south is also good walking all the way back to the bushline above Mansion Hut. And naturally this is a good base to head up to the Helen Peaks.
