the tardy bird gets the worm..
Three of us were running late on our last day of a trip into Adventure Ridge,in the Toaroha catchment. It was meant to be a circuit,up to 1500m on Mt Reeves, contour round to Genoa Peak & exit via Pinnacle Biv & Boo Boo Hut.But some steep faces offtrack at 1400m got in the way.A wise tramper would have gone up to Zit Saddle & along but our short cut tripped us up.Next time. So,after a late decamp below Adventure Biv,we descended to the main river for a cooling dip in the Toaroha.Brief yarn to the hut dwellers at Cedar Flats & on down the track. My bright idea was to take the flood route,to save time(another short cut..) but we soon went off track, recovered,& then got out the headlights for a 1am finish at the roadend.15 minutes beforehand,we were going through some sections of cuttings, put in for a bush tram in older times to facilitate logging.Because of the late hour, these were choccablock full of millions of glowworms, the most I`ve ever encountered.A sight to behold!
