This basic DOC campsite sits between Takaputahi Road and the Takaputaki River, at the junction with the 4WD Otipi Road. It's pretty much the westernmost point in the Raukumara Forest Park.

Access is off the Motu Road, and it can be reached in most 2WD vehicles.

There's a dunny, well built fireplaces, and a river below for water with pools to swim.

From here it's a long 1-2 day walk to Mangakirikiri Hut on the Motu either via Otipi Road and down the Motu River, or via Pukeiahonoa Track and the Mangamate / Mangakirikiri streams. Both routes spend a lot of time in the water and would be impassible after rain.

To the west it's a 24km road-bash through the bush on dirt roads to reach the Pakihi Track to Pakihi Hut and beyond.
