Ter Kahika Hut is long-gone. It's hard even to believe it ever existed - the entire valley floor is a network of river channels in various states of use or revegetation.

A tent in a river channel is your only hope - I wouldn't want to try to camp here in heavy rain! Anything above the river channels is covered in thick scrub.

To the west, the most common way into the Motu is up the Big Unknown and over the saddle 1.5km upriver. This cuts off major gorges / rapids above the Te Kahika / Motu confluence.
