  • ALL HYDROGENATED OIL IS BAD, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER IT'S TRANS OR NOT.... WANT HARD ARTERIES? GO AHEAD EAT HYDROGENATED OIL.... IT'S NO LONGER FOOD.....
  • Good to see plenty of awareness on these issues out there. It's a very complicated topic but the mainstream try to simplify it to fit in with the agenda of the seed/soy oil producers. Had a chat with a biochemistry registrar who intends to specialize in lipid disorders. When I told him I use coconut oil in lieu of margarine due to the absence of transfats among other things, he trotted out the usual B/S about saturated fats raising cholesterol. I countered by referring to the macadamia nut-sponsored study that showed coconut oil outperforming the nuts in lowering LDL and raising HDL. He said he'd check in with a nutritionist and I said, well I hope they know as much as I do! But they won't because they get their info from studies where the findings are corrupted in all sorts of ways because the studies are commissioned by the oil producers. You can have an abstract summarizing findings which are 180 degrees from what you will infer from reading the actual stats. There are about 7 different well documented ways to corrupt study findings. Here's an example: "Manuka also encourages the growth of "good" bacteria in the intestines and gets rid of unwanted bacteria". This is absolute crap. I took part in a study by Crop and Food of Lincoln commissioned by Comvita. I was given the entire study literature afterwards nd it was plain as day that ingesting either manuka or clover honey had absolutely no effect on the varieties of gut flora identified or their population sizes and this was clearly stated in the abstract. However, if you repeat a lie often enough, it will become the truth and it is clearly the case if you google "manuka honey" gut bacteria. I recall with fondness being paid $10 for each fecal specimen I supplied for the schedule of tests.
  • Where there's muck, there's brass !.
  • Ive just had a look at a second brand of dry coconut cream Both list ingredients of coconut solids and hydrolysed starch and emulsifier e341 No oils or fats of any kind listed. This in my mind means that the oils are still locked in the coconut solids and have not been extracted or processed in any way. No hydrogenated fats present. However what is emulsifier e341 and hydrolysed starch emulsifier e341 Calcium Phosphate (E341) – an acidity regulator, calcium phosphate is also a raising agent. It is also used in cheese products to fortify them with additional calcium. Probably harmless hydrolysed starch Mostly sugar but heres 2 links on this subject. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydrogenated_starch_hydrosylate http://www.lsbu.ac.uk/biology/enztech/starch.html Essentialy Claytons sugar. The sugar you have when your not having sugar.
  • Reading about hydrolysed starch today. That's how High Fructose Corn Syrup is made. They convert the starch to sugar. "HFCS is an aqueous solution sweetener derived from corn after enzymatic hydrolysis of cornstarch, followed by enzymatic conversion of glucose (dextrose) to fructose". Wonder what the source of the starch in the coconut cream powder is? Suspect this is some kind of Frankenfood. If we start digging into some of our tramping favourites, we find similar stuff e.g. Sodium Metabisulphites in the instant spuds and Back Country Cuisine. I keep hoping I'll tramp all this toxic crap out of my body. Meantime at home I eat real food to try and compensate...
