Walking access through the Dart Valley should be reinstated by the end of the month, DOC advises. A route for a new section of track has been surveyed around the landslide and resulting new lake that blocked the track on 4 January. Intending trampers should contact DOC for more information.

It shall be called Lake Dylster
NZ has a new permanent lake folks!
That is a for real lake growing there, I dont see that lot going down anytime soon. It will be deep when the real rain starts later in the year.....finish your tramp by kayak anyone?
You could do that.....provided you had a tent fly, rope and a couple of sticks...
When I was in the army we tried pack floating across a river in National park, all was going swimmingly (pun intended) until our gear started sinking......glug, glug, glug.....
...Its not easy to drag a pack out of a river when its full of water! Also, an SLR wont fire when wet, just in case you wanted to give it a go.
