Very basic htu, was a very welcome sight to see takapari road after a pretty much 2 and a half hour climb uphill with no level or downhill walking. Once you get on to takapari rd turn right and just around the corner is the hut. Theres no fire or mattress' but I was happy to get there. Its very exposed to the wind up there as it sits at just over 1200 metres. Also saw deer tracks but didnt see the deer, would recommend this hut for a good challenge if your just starting out tramping. Was just over 2 and a half hours from tamaki west road end and a bit shorter going down.
