Whirinaki Forest Park

Many trampers say, that above the tree line are the best tramps. Whirinaki Forest Park is the shining example, that bush tramps are just as wonderful, and more so for the beautiful surroundings. Highly recommended for all, including children. We saw so many Whio (Blue Ducks), that we stopped taking photos. Only afterwards did we realise how lucky we were to see so many pairs. We did have to turn back between Central Whirinaki Hut and Mangamate Hut as the track had been destroyed by windbreak. At times, we were standing in the river, unsure as to where the track continued, and decided that this was too dangerous with children. We contacted DoC afterwards, and understand that the track has been repaired.
