This pic shows the progress on the extensions to the newer of the two Cedar Flat huts. The DOC building team are adding another six bunk wing to the existing six bunker. They will be joined at a right angle to what was the porch end of the existing late 1960's NZFS hut. The additions appear to be sympathetic to the original design. The target for completion of the building work is Easter.

Cedar Flat huts receive fairly high usage because of the nearby hot springs and because the lower Toaroha valley is a gateway to lots of tramping and hunting. DOC decided the high usage warranted increasing hut capacity at this popular spot.
