This cross marks the gravesite of Ralph Wood who died on the slopes of Twin Peak in the northern Tararua Range during the 1936 cyclone that caused widespread devastation in the area. The effects of the cyclone are still evident today particularly on the Oriwa Ridge and Deception Spur. There are two crosses. This one marks Ralphs grave and a second is just uphill underneath the trig station on Twin Peak
