Lochnagar Hut

Lochnagar Hut

A hut was built here at Lochnagar in 1982. It was burnt down in 1988. As part of the 150th NZ anniversary project it was rebuilt in 1990. Permission for use should be sought from the landholder.(Shotover valley). Lochnagar, otherwise known as Goat Lake, is a large body of water more than 100m deep and was formed as a result of a huge slip 500-1000 yrs ago. The hut sits near to the lake outlet. The outlet becomes sub-terranian and reaches the surface again several hundred metres below.
