pmcke In the 1940's, it was during the war anyway, my father and a another chap took their younger flatmate on his first tramping trip. It was to Bains Hut.
That younger flatmate was George Lowe who was the other New Zealander on the 1953 Everest Expedition with Ed Hillary and was responsible for most of the ice climbing from the Western Cym to the South Col.
So Bains Hut was the destination of George Lowe's first tramping trip.
