Mt Taranaki Summit

Mt Taranaki Summit

This shot looks across Taranaki's crater from the western summit towards Sharks Tooth and the Taranaki Plains beyond. Mount Ruapehu may just be visible above the Sharks Tooth. Taken on 23 April, 2009, this photograph is composed of 4 overlapping individual shots stitched together. It took 3 hours, 20 minutes to climb here from Makatawa Hut. The track passed through alpine scrub, along a 4 wheel drive road, up a short valley and a series of wooden steps, over slippery scree, onto weathered lava, which brought up the rugged summit.

Comments

  • aardvark aardvark I wish i knew what you were talking about with the overlapping. I'm not that into photography. It seems worth the effort to be able to get a shot like that.
